MOZAMBIQUE

October 25th - October 31st, 2025

Tucked away at the very tip of Mozambique, where the Indian Ocean meets Africa’s wild edge, Ponta do Ouro is the kind of place that makes you question why anyone bothers diving anywhere else.

Humpback Whale Breaching

Picture this: warm subtropical waters hosting 19 different shark species (yes, you read that right!), humpback whales casually breaching while you’re gearing up, and coral reefs so pristine they look like someone’s been Photoshopping them.

Hammerheads

This isn’t your typical crowded dive destination where you’re fighting for photo ops. We’re talking about a sleepy fishing village where the biggest traffic jam is a herd of goats, and the dive sites are so uncrowded you’ll think you’ve discovered them yourself.

                Ray

As always, your Bangalore Scuba dive pro will be there throughout the trip, making sure you don’t miss that bull shark lurking behind the reef, and to lend you a hand both on land and underwater.

Overview

The diving here is basically nature showing off. We’re talking about subtropical reefs formed by fossilized sand dunes.

The sites here host everything from tiny nudibranchs (seriously, the sea slug diversity here could fill a coffee table book) to massive potato bass that are so friendly they practically pose for selfies.

Bull sharks are the main celebrities here, especially around The Pinnacles where they gather like it’s an exclusive shark social club.

Tiger sharks drop by when they feel like it, hammerheads cruise the deeper sites, and if you’re really lucky, whale sharks might just photobomb your safety stop!

The typical dive site setup? Think massive granite boulders creating underwater canyons, walls that disappear into the blue, and busy busy cleaning stations.

We are visiting just as the prime shark season begins here, and there will be several chances on encountering humpback whales.

What you’ll actually see at some of the highlight sites:

  • The Pinnacles: Bull shark central – up to 20+ sharks on a good day
  • Atlantis (38-47m): Deep wall diving with hammerheads & tiger sharks
  • Doodles: Ray paradise – we’ve counted 5+ species in a single dive
  • Playground: Perfect for night dives and macro photography
  • Wayne’s World: Swim-throughs that make you feel like you’re in an underwater cathedral

Oct 25th – Arrival at Maputo, and transfers to Ponta do Ouro (3 hrs drive)

Oct 26th to 30th – 3 dives each day (good mix of deep sites for sharks and shallow sites for reefs)

Oct 31st: Check out and transfers from Ponta do Ouro to Maputo (3 hrs drive)

(Please get in touch, should you wish to extend your trip and dive in Tofo.)

The diving isn’t particularly challenging in terms of actual conditions. You need to have good buoyancy skills, you need to be able to do a controlled ascent and descent in the blue and you need to be self-aware enough to watch your depth, air and NDL. Do note that we will be diving off RIBs.

We recommend being at least Advanced/Deep certified with 15 dives for this trip.

  • Water Temperature: Ranges 24°– 28° Celsius
  • Visibility: Typically between 20 to 30+ meters
  • Currents: Vary depending on tides, with gentle drifts and moderate currents on some deep dives.

For our trip, we have chosen a perfect storm of location and vibe!

Forget the fancy resort brochures, this one is planted right on Ponta do Ouro’s beach, this gem delivers exactly what matters.

Direct beach access, an on-site dive center, and that chill, friendly vibe that makes you feel at home the moment you arrive.

Rustic reed cottages for the authentic experience or luxury en-suite beach-facing rooms for those who like their comfort with a view. Either way, you’re literally steps from the water.

You might spot dolphins, whales, and zambezi (bull) sharks right from your doorstep. How about that?

In our experience, the best dive trips happen where the Wi-Fi is questionable but the stories are legendary!

  • Please carry sufficient USD cash to pay for your meals – local restaurants rarely accept credit cards (although that is starting to change)
  • While the diving is accessible to all certification levels, we recommend divers who are not comfortable with their buoyancy, etc do a refresher in a pool before coming – this lets you enjoy the dives more and also doesn’t affect the dives for others
  • Feel free to contact us on +919880334003 or +917044072204 if you have any questions, or email info@bangalorescuba.com
